Children

When a relationship breaks down, issues relating to children need to be handled with great sensitivity. We are very experienced in dealing with these matters, whether this involves advising in relation to ongoing living arrangements, or in relation to matters relating to the exercise of parental responsibility.

Upon separation or divorce and subsequently, the following issues can arise:

  • Where your children will live and how they will spend time with each parent
  • Questions of parental responsibility, such as where your child will go to school, medical treatment or name changes
  • Financial issues, such as child maintenance
  • Ongoing parenting roles, successful communication and co-operation

A range of options is available to resolve such issues, including:

  • Family therapy and counselling
  • Court

In our increasingly cosmopolitan society, we frequently advise parents in situations where it is proposed that a child moves abroad with one parent (in such situations, an order permitting this is required from the UK courts). We also have experience in assisting parents in proceedings under the Hague Convention when a child has not been returned from a foreign country, in cases of child abduction.

Our specialist lawyers can meet with you at our offices in Chichester, Petworth or Storrington.
