Civil Partnerships

Since December 2005, same-sex couples have been legally entitled to enter into Civil Partnerships, which give them rights akin to married couples, so far as financial remedies are concerned, in the event of relationship breakdown.

However, Civil Partnerships are a distinct legal concept to marriage, so specialist advice in this area is very important.

At Anderson Rowntree, our aim is to enable clients to resolve issues arising upon the dissolution of a Civil Partnership with minimum acrimony and cost. We will explore whether non-court options, such as family mediation and collaborative law can be used to achieve this outcome. However, where it is necessary, we can represent clients in court, where  the financial remedies available include lump sump, maintenance, property adjustment and pension sharing orders. We also advise in relation to arrangements for children.

We can advise upon pre and post Civil Partnership Agreements, and further to the recent introduction of Same Sex Marriage, in relation to Premarital Agreements.
